Reputed portraitist and artist for more than 20 years, d’Etigny has created a large number of paintings. Let yourself be amazed by the talent of this genuine artist who will turn a simple photo into something of greater value: a work of art, your work of art!

Anne-François d’etigny, artist painter portraitist…

Born in 1966, Anne-François d’Etigny spent his childhood in Paris where he received a classical education.

After majoring in Finance, all fingers pointed to him becoming a banker or businessman… It would however become clear to him that he was destined for other things… From a very young age, being the grandson of a portraitist, he already showed an obvious predisposition for art, which was confirmed by his very first portrait, painted at a mere 10 years old. From then on, he made any excuse to draw and create, doing portraits and caricatures. His teachers, unbeknownst to them, were his first subjects… At age 25, he made his choice: to step off the path carved out for him and embrace the life of an artist.

During his years of apprenticeship, d’Etigny took advantage of being a student of the great masters of classical painting of the 17th and 18th centuries. Patiently he imitated them, and over time acquired a mastery of drawing and their techniques. He followed up with courses on perspective and morphology in Fine Arts, then trained as a decorative painter at the Van der Kelen School in Brussels.

Throughout his development, d’Etigny has had many experiences and sources of inspiration as result of his extensive travelling, taking models beyond our borders, in places like London, Rio and Bejing. Today he is an artist in his own right, but Anne-François d’Etigny is, above all, a portraitist…

a portrait according to d’etigny…

“Make haste, time is fleeting!” Musset
Have your children or loved ones changed? The good times are starting to fade away. Have you ever wished you could immortalize these moments, looks, first meetings? The portrait according to d’Etigny is a way to freeze time, bring the memories to life, seize the moment… Much more poetic than a cliché photo, a portrait stands the test of time, beholds, is passed down, and sometimes becomes the soul of your home.

Technique, and an extra something special
Each portrait is the result of work executed with the goal of rendering the subject lively and expressive, as true to life as possible to the original. To achieve this, Anne-François really takes the time to seize an attitude, a look, and then transcribe the inner personality of the model with the highest accuracy possible. A successful union of technical work that aspires to perfection and an artistic approach that places the aesthetic at the center of his works, the portrait touches and moves you, and lives...

in practice !

The creation of a portrait is a step by step process and can be done in two ways :

Would you like to pose for the portrait?
This is entirely possible and will be all the more inspiring to the artist!
Anne-François d’Etigny will start by planning the posing sessions with you. During the first session, he will search for the attitude, the look, that special beauty that everyone possesses, which he will then interpret…

Based on a photograph?
A portrait using a photo as the model is another option for those who cannot dedicate time to posing. In this case, Anne-François will come and take the snapshot himself in order to capture the emotion that he will then transcribe to the canvas… Depending on your wishes, the artist can create your portrait using oil on canvas or charcoal on card stock. Whether you choose the posed portrait or based on a photo, the overall execution of your portrait will take between 5 and 7 weeks. It is always better not to rush these things…
